The going rate for every role we can price, in USD per month. These are local posted wages, so a quote well above the band is a markup you can ask about.

Your cost to employ and typical agency quote are modeled: wage plus statutory employer adds, then a disclosed markup band on top. Hiring through an EOR instead of a contractor or your own entity adds a flat $599-$699/mo per person on top (published Deel/Multiplier pricing). How these are built.

Software engineers in Pakistan posted at $365 to $558 a month in our 8/2026 pull from public Pakistani job boards. The table above carries the same read for every role we can price, so you can walk into a vendor conversation already knowing the local number instead of taking their word for it.
Two things to know before you read a band. These are wages employers posted, not rates a US buyer pays a vendor. And a wage becomes your cost only after the engagement layer adds its markup, which is the second half of this page.
Software engineer is the flagship technical cell in this pull: eleven postings, an average posted band of $365 to $558 a month (PKR 101,364 to 155,000), latest pull 8/2026. The full per-posting list sits on the software engineer role page, including a Karachi software-developer posting at $900 to $1,079 (PKR 250,000 to 300,000) and a Karachi Python posting at $360 to $1,799 (PKR 100,000 to 500,000). That spread inside one role family is the most useful thing on this page: "a developer in Pakistan" is not a price, it is a range several times wide, and the seniority and city underneath it decide where in that range you land.
The adjacent technical families:

Frontend, backend, and QA cleared the three-observation floor in this pull and now publish a band. Families still below that floor show in the table above as withheld cells with their current n, not as estimates. The all-roles hiring cost guide carries every family in one view, including the non-technical ones.
Every row is an employer-stated figure on a public posting. Nothing here is inferred, modeled, or lifted from an aggregator's estimated-salary page. Mustakbil supplied 566 of the 913 rows, Rozee.pk 334, Indeed Pakistan 12, Brightspyre 1.
That produces two biases we would rather state than bury. First, only employers who choose to publish a number are in the sample, and pay transparency in Pakistan is more common in high-turnover roles than in senior engineering, where compensation is usually negotiated privately. The senior end of the market is underrepresented here. Second, this is a single-day snapshot, so it carries no trend and no seasonality. Treat a band as a reading taken on 8/2026, not a stable index.
The methodology page covers the labeling rules, the n≥3 floor, and the refresh commitments in full.
A Pakistani developer's posted wage and what a US company pays per hour to work with that developer are different numbers, and the gap is not concealment. It pays for recruiting, payroll, compliance, benefits administration, and management overhead that someone has to carry, either the vendor or you.
Our formula: billed rate = observed wage × (1 + markup). We publish the observed wage because we have it. We do not publish a calibrated markup, because we have not collected vendor invoices and will not model a number we cannot show the derivation for. Any billed-rate figure on this site will carry the wage it started from, the markup applied, and the basis for that markup, on the same row.
What the wage layer gives you is a floor you can negotiate from. A vendor quoting you a monthly rate for a mid-level Pakistani engineer is quoting a number that starts near the bands above. Ask them to break out the wage and their margin. A vendor who will not is giving you a price rather than a number, and that refusal tells you something about the deal before you sign it.
Is $252 a month (PKR 70,000) a good developer salary in Pakistan? Against this pull, it sits below the software-engineer band's average posted minimum of $365 (PKR 101,364) and inside the graphic-designer and content-writer ranges. For a working developer it reads as junior or small-market territory, not a mid-career figure. Check it against the role page rather than a forum thread.
Why is the range inside one role so wide? Because city and seniority move it more than the job title does. The same pull holds a Sialkot posting spanning $36 to $360 (PKR 10,000 to 100,000), explicitly advertised for multiple experience levels, and a Karachi posting at $900 to $1,079 (PKR 250,000 to 300,000). A single blended national number would hide exactly the variation that decides your budget.
Does a posted wage tell me what a dev shop will charge? No, and treating it that way is the most expensive mistake on this page. It tells you what the person is paid. The provider registry lists 899 Pakistani software firms with their cities, which is where you go to gather actual quotes and compare them against this floor.
What does an employer actually pay on top of the wage? Employer-side statutory costs in Pakistan include Employees' Old-Age Benefits Institution contributions and provincial social security, plus gratuity accruing per year of service. Those are real line items on a local employment, and an EOR passes them through to you on top of its own fee. The employment rules page breaks down what is owed and how it changes by province.
Should I expect to pay in dollars? For senior remote engineers, often yes. The most experienced Pakistani developers work for foreign clients at USD-denominated rates that decouple from the local posted-wage market entirely, which is one reason the top of the local band understates what it costs to hire the top of the talent pool. This index measures the local wage floor. It does not measure what a US company competing for a senior remote engineer will actually have to bid.
We do not have a calibrated markup model, so no billed-rate column publishes on this page today. We do not have month-over-month movement, because this is the first scaled pull. We do not publish per-city bands for most families yet; the city counts on each role page show how thin those splits currently are. And nothing on this page is ground-verified: it is index data built from public postings, labeled as such, and a physical-visit verification program is standing up separately.
